LVT Stair Nosing for 5mm Flooring

This anodised aluminium profile finishes and protects the stair edge where 5mm luxury vinyl tile is laid. The 42mm tread section covers the LVT edge and holds it down, while the 28mm riser section closes the vertical face below — so the join is sealed on both sides rather than left open to lift.

LVT on stairs takes more punishment than anywhere else in a house. Every footfall lands on the same few centimetres of step edge, and once the vinyl starts to lift there it will not stop. A nosing takes that wear instead.

Why the 5mm Fit Matters

The C29 is machined for 5mm LVT specifically. Fit a thinner floor covering and the profile sits proud, leaving a lip to catch a toe. Fit a thicker one and it will not seat properly at all.

Finishes

Available in Black, Silver, Gold and Champagne anodised finishes. On stairs used by children or older people, choose a finish that contrasts with the LVT rather than matching it — a clearly visible step edge is what prevents a missed footing on the way down.

Fitting

The profile is screw fixed, and screws and plugs are supplied. Lay the LVT first, then position the nosing over the edge, mark the fixing points, drill and fix from the centre outwards.

Cut to length with a fine-tooth hacksaw or a mitre saw with a non-ferrous blade, and file the cut end smooth. Measure each step separately — staircases are rarely perfectly square, and a difference of a few millimetres between the top and bottom step is normal in older houses.

Questions

Will this work with thicker vinyl flooring?
No. This profile is machined for 5mm LVT. For other thicknesses see the rest of our LVT stair nosing range.

Which length should I order?
Available in 0.9m and 2.7m. Measure the widest step in the flight, and allow a few millimetres for trimming. Standard domestic stairs are usually covered by the 0.9m length per step.

Can I use adhesive instead of screws?
This profile is designed for screw fixing, which is the stronger method and the right choice for stairs in daily use. If you need an adhesive fix, see our self-adhesive profiles.

Does it meet Building Regulations?
For public and commercial buildings, step edges need to contrast visually and be slip-resistant. Our guide to Part K and Part M explains what applies and where.
